My Autobiography
My name is Aimee Smith. I was born in the small town of Mechanicsville Virginia. I have always grown up on a larger family full of many children. I am the youngest of four, one older brother, and two older sisters. I am now a young mother and though it has many challenges, it is something I value very much. I attended a high school known as Lee-Davis High School and then went to college at J. Sargent Reynolds. My family is so large that we have had many children born after me. I found that I loved to take care of those who are younger and I enjoyed helping my family members do anything for the children. The love for taking of children was not just for my family. Because of my passion for children, I chose to pursue a career in the child care field. AT the young age of 16 I begin working at Fairmount Christian Church After school Program. While performing this job I was a teacher’s aide for the ages of 5 to 7 and then I moved to the position of lead teacher of the group. This job entitled me to make lesson plans and provide care for these young children. After two years at Fairmount, I went on maternity leave and chose to stay at home with my son. During the time of staying home I chose to start school to better educate myself, and then decided to begin babysitting as well. I started with a nine month old who has grown up to be two years old. I also began watching a 3 month old and have continued to do so. These children are my focus and providing them the best environment away from home is my main goal. Due to my experience, I have learned that the best age for me to work with are infants. Have come to realize that changing diapers, feeding the babies bottles, and helping them to learn how to take the next steps are what I am best at. I enjoy doing all sorts of things. I love to be outside with my family doing all types of activities, but the main hobby I have grown to love is cooking. I never used to cook until we found out my son is highly allergic to dairy. I have had to start making all his food from scratch and ever since then I love to cook all sorts of things.
