Competency Statement 6
To maintain a commitment to professionalism
Functional Area 1: Professionalism
One of my main goals of the functional area of professionalism is to maintain a commitment. In order to fully commit to professionalism many things must be done. A dress code, further staff training, hiring high qualified workers, keeping the facility clean, maintaining equipment, keeping paper work organized, and offer outstanding services. I will follow a dress code that is very strict. Shirts must be long in length and the sleeves of the shirt must reach mid upper arm. Shirts must also cover all of the chest area. The dress code will state that pants must be at least to your knee and must be khakis. Shoes are another thing that will be addressed. They must be close toed and an athletic style. The final thing that the dress code will state is that all tattoos must be covered and piercings as well. Some individuals may find them offensive, so eliminating them all together cuts out the risk. Another thing to focus on in order to achieve this goal is to provide training. I must offer staff the opportunities to complete training even if it is done outside of the facility. Such trainings include classes offered at a local college. Hiring high qualified workers will help maintain professionalism. If you high those that already have training and experience, then they will understand the commitment to professionalism. Keeping the facility clean makes the appearance of the program look professional. Maintain equipment consists of keeping the equipment clean along with fixing or replacing what is damaged. All child care programs come with much paper work. Keeping paper work organized and in the appropriate places is very important. The more services your program offers the more professional it will be taken.
